Historic Stamford, Burghley House and much more...

The beautiful and historic town of Stamford, the Cotswolds without the crowds, will enthral anyone, with its elegant splendour, packed with beautiful Georgian buildings, and their unique ‘roofscapes’, it’s interesting churches all built from the mellow, honey coloured and locally quarried limestone, which comes from the same limestone seam running from Dorset, through the Cotswolds and finishes in Lincolnshire. The wealth of the past is very evident.

This charming town is situated on the old stage route from London to the North, you can still imagine the horse and coaches and their passengers arriving for their overnight stay at the famous George Hotel, at least those lucky enough to avoid such characters as Dick Turpin, on route.

There is so much to see and explore the little back streets and alleyways, the unique boutique shops, and an abundance of art and antiques.  Stamford has something for everyone.

Walking around this pretty town takes you back to Georgian times, it’s no wonder Stamford is a favourite with worldwide Film Directors, as many films and BBC productions have been made here.

So a day out that incorporates Stamford and the beautiful Burghley House, which lies just outside Stamford, plus the stunning countryside, it holds all the ingredients for a fantastic day out.
